Storefront on the Rise!!

Whats going on, its Roy of Storefront stylings. People......STOREFRONT is on the rise! As you all may know, Danny and I are molding Storefront stylings into an incredible project. Storefront will be a styling firm that deals with styling of course, photoshoots, personal client shopping, visual styling and even some fashion design. Storefront is a new chapter in both of our lives and we are very proud of it. Since Daniel is in L.A. working with True Religion, Im here in NY taking care of some of the business having to do with Storefront. These next couple of months will be a amazing experience for Storefront. STAY TUNED. We believe in getting out our dreams and making them reality. We're keeping GOD first and everything will surely come after.

DSquared2: In addition to the other two collections listed, this is one of my favorite lines (if not my favorite) so far. When I saw the pieces I laughed (in a good way). They're creativity and personality is beaming through the whole show. I liked every look and I was tempted to put the whole line on here. yo square up!

Alexander McQueen: For some reason I wasn't as blown away as everyone else was with this collection, at first. Probably because I was looking at it at work in between eating and trying to help pick out what jeans we were going to show my boss to gift Meagan Fox. But the more I looked at it the more I realized it's genius. I've already gift listed the pieces I want (whenever that's going to happen. I'm doing this new thing, I call it "saving money." The life of a working man eh?)

daniel [la]: I've been making my rounds through the spring 2010 lines. so far these three have stuck out to me.

Bottega Veneta: this collection had "spring" written all over it. the line started off with a lot of browns with accenting blues, purples, reds, pinks, and greens. tie-dies were present as well as some dope ass prints. I'm usually not one to like print on print (matchy-matchy) but i liked it a lot, not just with Bottega but other designers as well. everything looked relaxed and comfortable, almost as if you could sleep in the clothes, wake up, then make some moves. he played well with tones and color variation that were done subtly even when red shoes were paired with the army green and shorts set. speaking of army, the collection kept a slight militant presence throughout the show. there's also an Asian influence that can been seen with the nicely done colors, prints and floral's. The more I looked at the line the more I liked it, which was good because I liked it off jump. The suits were sick, period. the bright red which Bottega is calling "fever red" was a nice contrast to the subdued color that was seen in the first half of the show. The suit jackets and blazers kept the lightweight appearance, and pointed shoulders made me grin, I was waiting for a designer to translate the exaggerated shoulder into menswear. Mr. Bottega did it while keeping it masculine and not looking like a complete dick. I'm really big on bags but the bags used in this line weren't my favorite. Overall the line was great and definitely a leader of the pack heading into next spring. So big ups to Tomas Maier ,who has taken the reigns of Bottega Veneta for over eight years now, the line is dope.

Long time no see my friends. It's been over a month since our last posting, but fret not, we are back. After school let out in May a much needed break was in place to get summer plans sorted and everything. But just because we've been away from the blog doesn't mean we've been away from what we love. I'm currently in LA interning with True Religion Brand Jeans [Daniel] and my cousin Roy is back in NY holding down the fort on the east coast. Roy just got accepted to L.I.M, so he'll be making the move back to NY from Miami, where he was previously going to school. Now that there's one of us on each coast this calls for a new chapter in [S T O R E F R O N T] which were calling "storefront.[la/ny]." And of course we'll be doing what [S T O R E F R O N T] was created to do, which is to promote art in all of it's living forms. Roy will be corresponding from NY and myself LA. Great things are in store. Many ideas and notions have been made and continue to be made while the creativity grows. Stay tuned guys, it's going to be a hell of a ride.

PS: yo shout out to all my friends and family back on the east coast. I miss you guys!

The time has finally come for me to glimpse back into my inner comic book obsessed geek and see whats looking out to be a really great film. For all my comic book lovers and faithful Saturday morning 'Fox Kids network' watchers out there, this is pretty much a God send. I've only seen the trailers and read a few articles on it but I'm going to go ahead and say that this movie is definitely going to be worth the now $10 to go see it [fuck the recession]. I've had the chance to watch it on bootleg but I'm going to go ahead and wait the extra week and see it legit. For all my guys out there who were mad that none of the previous X-MEN movies had mother fucking GAMBIT in that bitch <-- all curse words were necessary, then the time has come to see one of the best X-MEN characters on the big screen. The movie is pretty much meant to explain the creation of Wolverine and the experimentation of other mutants in the Weapon X program. As well as to debrief the not-so comic book friendly watchers about what the hell the past 3 movies were about. Film comes out May 1st.

Launch Party HUGE success!

It went down 04/12/09. [S T O R E F R O N T] Launch Party at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. I think everyone will attest that it took a lot of work to produce, but it was well worth it. The girls came with it with two scenes, the latter merged the distinction between feminism and masculinity in women swear. BUT no one brought it harder then the guys, which is good because the show was meant to really promote the rise and importance of menswear. And we didn't know how it was going to come across when we cut the male scenes from 2 to 1, but all things went well. I think the biggest success to this was how close I saw [S T O R E F R O N T] come together to get this done. For all of you guys who don't know the people involved, there's A LOT of different personalities involved but somehow it all seems to work out. It's still hard to get over the fact that this little thought I had back in October [08'] to start a styling firm and have an event in April actually came true. More than half the people that are in [S T O R E F R O N T] <--- I wonder how many times I'm going to say this in this post, I didn't even know that well when I came up with the idea, but for better or for worst I'm glad I met every single one of them. Along with all the other excitement of the weekend it was good to have my cousin Roy up from M.I.A to help out with the show. We showed him a pretty good HU time. He'll def be up around these ends a lot more. While I'm at this, on behalf of me and Roy big up to JA, U.K, NY[Strong Island], and M.I.A. Have to keep it in the Fam [laughing a little bit out loud...good times man]. In all, the Launch Party was not only successful in the fashion sense but for the people involved. People, never stop dreaming, never stop believing in yourselves and the people around you. Never stop believing in the power of art and it's ability to change society. On that note, thanks to Deron and the Atomics, and Euro P. Gold who held it down with the performances for the night. Also Kahlid for the flyer's. And can't forget my parents and Auntie Jen and Uncle Tony [Happy Belated!] who came to support as well as all of the friends and family of [S T O R E F R O N T] were truly blessed to have you guys. This is ONLY the beginning, there's a lot more to come from [S T O R E F R O N T] we are on the rise! Ladies and gentlemen this is not you average R&B group....at all. When I first saw these girls on 106&Park I just thought to myself "here we go again, another group of girls trying to make a career on little talent and a lot [a whole lot in this instance] of sex. BUT I was soon eating my words. As the interview grew I came to respect these four girls more and more. Two of them [Sarah and Naiomi] are from Toronto and the other two Leslie and Binki <--[stupid name yes] are from NY, Brooklyn and Manhattan to be exact. All of them come from prestigious performing art schools and from there have had a flourishing career dancing for big names like Usher, Mariah Carey, and Ciara. Now you may be asking yourself "OK, but can these girls sing?...like even a little bit" and the answer would be yes. Now, are these girls Whitney prodigy's, no. but they can all sing better than most of these people out here now who seem to be making it. The assuming lead singer Naiomi sounds a lot like Kelis, very airy and low but all I've heard them live and she pulled her weight pretty well while performing. I was listening to theyre first single "Drink in My Cup" which was a kind of a go-hard type feel to it. Then I realized, these girls are like Spice Girls on crack. They sing about material which you'd expect from Total or Exscape but I feel they have the staying power of Destiny's Child. They re second single "So Good" is a softer sound but still raunchy. The hook is "it's so good, so good, so oh shit, damn." Now I don't know if it's my fetish for girls that take charge or the way they're just blunt "as shit" but these girls are doing a whole lot for me. After major debate I'm officially claiming dibbs on Naiomi, the head chick in charge. I've heard what I'm assuming is they're third single "Friend Lover" which is hot, which I can already tell is going to do well here, and overseas are going to eat this shit up. Plus the fact that everywhere else in the world is still gunghoe on girl groups. Not to mention that whoever they're stylist is, is doing a damn good job, these girls have a unique style that they'll be able to monopolize on pretty well. Well they're you have it, Ladies and Gentlemen... ELECTRIK RED! Keep a huge eye out for these ladies. From us here at STOREFRONT we officially deem them.....DOPE!

We may be in a recession but that didn't seem to stunt the style of the Academy of actors at this years Oscars. We saw everything from overdone, almost costume like gowns to sleek fitted suits from the guys. One couple stood out the most to us. Zac Efron who sported a slim fitting Dolce and Gabbana suit and Vanessa Hutchins who wore a Marchesca knee length dress that she had lengthened. Now I have to admit, I idolize Zac Efron a little bit. The guy can dress his ass off and he really puts that Disney check to good use. Every time I see a picture of this guy he's always on it. Not to mention he plays that relaxed, I'm just taking a stroll through L.A look better than any other celebrity. Now guys here's a lesson for this years formal wear. SLIM BOW TIES! I can't tell you how many guys I see with these huge ass clown like bow ties looking like they re about to sell me a bean pie on behalf of the Nation of Islam rather than go out for the night. NY, L.A, M.I.A are great but theres something speacial about the nations capital. The atmosphere is flooded with culture and a diverse sense of originailty. From the fashion to the music D.C stands on it's own two feet when it comes to the celebration of art. Walking down the street you can see and hear music from anything that can produce sound, trash cans, boxes, barrels almost everything is used to produce the distinct sounds of GOGO an art form in itself. It's great to see some color for this years fall line. We've been looking through a lot of other fall collections and many of them seem to be really monochromatic for the upcoming fall season. The color Marc uses is definitely a breath of fresh air among the other black, grey, and navy's used by a lot of other designers. Jacobs seems to be playing with a bit of layering which we like to do a lot of when the weather calls for it.....and when it doesn't. And the high top, boot like trainers are a great addition to his pieces.

One word can sum up the day trip me and Alain took to NY....DOPE! Every time I go to NY I realize that there's no place like it. The fashion scene was crazy and it left us inspired and ready to get back to work on our up-coming show [April 12th be on the look out for more details.] The weather was great and the vibes were good on Fashion Week's second day of shows and me and Alain were there for the ride. Before we got to Bryant Park we visited Time Square and did our rounds through Soho and the Village. As we walked the streets of NY we almost forgot that it was even Fashion Week because walking the streets of Soho was like walking through a magazine in itself. I love New York because it's one of those cities that you can be YOU and people won't look at you like you have 12 heads. The StreetStyle was too much fun to do. Meeting new people and enjoying the common passion for fashion was sick. As we made our way over to Bryant Park you could start to feel the excitement in the air. When we arrived we were there in time to catch people leaving the Barbie show that we later saw online [it was pretty dope.] Outside the tents we met loads of people from NYU students to designers, photographers, editors and other people watchers standing outside just happy to be in the creative environment. It's hard for words to describe the vibes we felt from being there. Just know they were good. By the time we had decided to pack up and leave 6 hours had passed and we decided it was time to head back to MD so we could get back to Hampton the next day. New York you were good to us and we'll definitely be back for more.

As more and more people started looking at our blog we were getting a lot of "You have to put Deron on your blog!!" and after about the millionth person told me about Deron I decided that he was worth taking a listen to. So I told Alain to set up an interview so I could get a chance to meet Deron and let me tell you guys, it was worth it, the guy is major! Be on the look out for his single Cali Girls and the live interview and rap session exclusively for STOREFRONT. Again, Deron Hogan everybody![Insert applause here.]

Damn, what can you say (or not say for that matter) about Mr. Richardson. When Alain showed us his pics I instantly fell for this guys work. If you've ever seen pictures from Terry Richardson a few words come to mind: BLUNT, RAW, SEX. All his pictures, even if they weren't nude (which a lot were) had some connotation to sex. His images are intriguing and leave you sitting in front of the computer screen in awe. Now before you venture out into cyberspace in search of this guy be prepared to find some crazy ass pics. Guy on guy, girl on girl, nude, and some almost pornographic pictures, but that's why we love this guy, he's not afraid to push the envelope, even though he decides to not only push the envelope but rip it open and read the letter. He captures the essence of individuality, human emotion and vulnerability which makes his work so inspiring. He's shot campaigns for Gucci, Miu Miu, Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss, Levis and has been published in french Vouge, British Vouge, Harper's Bazzare, GQ and more. All of American Apparel and Marc Jacobs campaign pictures are photgraphed by Richardson as well. So definately keep an eye out for his work because he's everywhere! STOREFRONT has definitely fell for this guy and we'll be following this California native for good.

We've had our ear on this indie pop artist for sometime now, and now that were up and running we'd like to spotlight her as one of the most unique crossover artists we've seen in a while. She's had STOREFRONT's heart ever since the first echo of "dance dance dance". Her quirky-electronic sound and retro-chic look add to the edgey sweedish package.
